Beowulf

I watched Beowulf over the weekend. You know, the animation over live actors written by Neil Gaiman and directed by Robert Zemeckis. I enjoyed the movie and thought it was pretty good.  And it got me to thinking about the poem and to the copy I have from Easton Press.

Easton Press’s edition is the translation by William Ellery Leonard a Professor of Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and surprisingly born in Plainfield, NJ (I grew up a town over).  It also has illustrations by Lynd Ward. Yes Easton Press tends to you previously published translations and art work since it decreases their cost. But this doenst’ take away from the production quality of the book.

Easton Press, I know I sound like a shill but I’m not, produces a fair amount of great books. I have yet to be disappointed with any of their books which is far more than I can say for a lot of publishers out there. In this entry, I am going to take a look at a new series that Easton Press is producing.  This series is a bit different from what they are usually publishing.  Easton Press does a fine job producing leather bound hardcover editions that go from standard sized hardcovers to over-sized behemoths.

Easton Press are Enablers!

Easton Press has my number. In the past two months I have received promotions for new books or series of books from them and I was compelled, no compelled is too passive a word, I was forced to order a new series and a few individual books.

Damn them for feeding and enabling my addiction.
